9-Hole Golf: A Quick Introduction
9-hole golf is a form of golf that is played on 9 holes instead of the standard 18. The game can be played in the same way as 18-hole golf but in half the time so it’s a great alternative if you’re short of time, or just starting out.
9-hole golf courses vary in length and difficulty, so there are plenty of options for players of all ability levels. 9 hole courses are more common than 18 hole courses because they’re smaller, which means they require less investment and maintenance.
But don’t be fooled into thinking 9-hole golf is easier than the regular game! Each hole has its own challenges, and while they may be shorter than 18-hole courses, they often have fewer hazards like water hazards or bunkers.
Some professionals who play on tour love playing 9 holes to warm up before a round or practice their short game when it’s raining! So why not try it out too?
If you’re new to golf, 9 holes might be intimidating at first sight. You’ll see some people with super expensive clubs and nice outfits who look like they know what they’re doing while others look like they’ve never played before (and maybe they haven’t)!
Play 9-Hole Golf to Gain More Time for Practice
9-hole golf has been around for centuries, but it has recently seen a resurgence as players have realized that playing a quick round of golf is fun, and that it also provides more time for practice. If you are struggling with your short game, or if you simply want to hit the course more often on your lunch break, try 9-hole golf. You will see improvements in your short game and you will be able to play golf more often.
Play 9-Hole Golf to Improve Your Short Game
Have you ever played an entire round of golf only to realize that your short game is a mess? Your drives might be great, but if you cannot get out of the sand or get out of the rough, then your score will suffer. By playing nine holes instead of eighteen holes, you can spend more time practicing your short game. Try playing four holes and then spending the next five holes at the practice range working on your pitching and chipping technique. Or stop after five holes of play and spend the rest of the day hitting balls at the driving range. You may even want to bring along a friend who wants to work on his or her own short game so that you can help one another
I’m sure you have all heard the phrase “play it where it lies.” It is one of the fundamental tenets of golf. No matter how bad your shot, it is time to move on and hopefully do better next time. I can’t help but think this applies to 9-hole golf as well.
If you live in a small town, chances are you have heard someone make the comment that there must be no golfers living here since the course isn’t open anymore. They don’t realize that most of us are out there every day playing 9 holes. We don’t necessarily want to play 18 holes or even 27 holes, just 9 holes.
We need to get out there and play by whatever means possible, even if it’s only 9 holes. It’s hard for people who live in larger cities with more courses to understand this mentality, but we know what it’s like to lose our favorite course. We also know that once a course is gone, it is unlikely to open again unless some very wealthy benefactor steps up and reopens it at their own expense.
In my world, I am proud to say that we now have three 9-hole courses within an easy drive of my home. I support them all by playing on them as often as
Why do we need 9 hole golf? 1. Time. 9 hole golfers have time to play 9 holes, at least once a week. That’s why they play 9 holes. They have time on their hands and it is an easy, fun way to get exercise. 2. Money. It’s fun to play golf but the green fees are often too high and the courses are too crowded to fit in 18 holes in a reasonable amount of time. 3. Golfers want to play golf, not spend 5 hours walking around a course. 4. Many courses around the country are now offering lower green fees for 9 hole rounds or shorter rounds called “twilight” rounds that start in the afternoon when rates are reduced because fewer people are playing at those times. 5. Golfers who play 9 holes know how much fun it is and how it is easier on their bodies than 18 holes

I’m sure that you have been in a situation where you have only had time to play nine holes of golf. I know that I have. There are many benefits to playing nine hole rounds of golf.
Benefit
For many years I was a golf instructor, teaching men and women how to play the game. One thing I learned is that no matter what your skill level you can get better at golf.
One of the things that held me back from improving was my focus on the full 18 holes. When I started thinking about playing 9 hole rounds, it changed my whole game—and how I approached it.
First of all, playing 9 holes takes less time than 18.
You can play 9 holes in 2-1/2 hours as opposed to 4-1/2 hours or more for a full round. It’s amazing how much better we can play when we aren’t worried about the clock!
Another benefit of playing 9 holes is that you don’t have to walk as far as you do for 18 so it’s easier on your legs and back.
And then there’s the really big one: You know you are going to finish your game in a reasonable amount of time! Not only does it affect your golf game but also your life when you know you will be home before dinner or off with friends for an evening out.
I could go on and on about the benefits of playing 9 holes but let me
