Many people assume that golf course maintenance is simple and easy. In fact, it is a very time consuming job that requires a lot of attention to detail and dedication. There are many people who assume that it is boring and unfulfilling. Yet, there are people who absolutely love their jobs and would not trade them for anything else in the world. While it is true that these jobs do not pay much, they can be quite rewarding for those who truly love being outdoors and working with their hands.
There are many different jobs that require golf course maintenance. Some of these jobs are more common than others. When you consider some of the most common ones, you will see why this type of work can be so rewarding. These include:

Golf course maintenance personnel spend their days working with the tools, equipment and machinery necessary to accomplish these tasks. They must be trained in the proper use of all these items and understand how they can best be used to complete a task.
Every day in the golf industry is different than the next and it keeps me motivated to work harder. When I am on the job, I do not have time to look at my watch and I feel that time flies very quickly. The best benefit of working at golf course is being outside all day long. As long as the weather cooperates, I enjoy my days out in the sun and working around the beautiful trees and flowers. In the mornings, I usually arrive at the golf course by 6:30 a.m. I head down to the shop to start up my mowers and organize any tools that I need for my daily tasks. My first task that needs to be completed every day involves setting up the hole locations for all 18 holes on the course. These hole locations determine how difficult or easy it is for golfers to score well on each hole. After setting up all of these flags, I head back up to the shop where sometimes there are a few other maintenance employees waiting for me.
The next task of my day is to go over any special instructions that one of our supervisors has left for me on a clipboard inside of our foreman’s office. These instructions involve any special mowing patterns or assignments that need to be completed on our golf course throughout the
In general, a Groundsperson is required to carry out all aspects of the day-to-day maintenance of the golf course and associated areas. They will maintain the golf course to an extremely high standard, ensuring the greens and fairways are always ready for play.
A Groundsperson will be expected to help with essential tasks such as mowing and irrigation, as well as helping with other jobs around the golf course.
The main responsibilities of a Groundsperson are listed below; however, this list is not exhaustive.
Mowing – Keeping all areas of the golf course neat and tidy including greens, tees, fairways and roughs. Using specialist mowing equipment such as pedestrian mowers, ride on mowers and tractors.
Irrigation – Checking that the irrigation system is working properly. Watering greens when necessary.
Repairing – Repairing pitch marks on greens, filling divots on fairways and tees. Scanning green surfaces for any potential problems e.g., worm casts and clearing these away.
Meadows Golf Course is a well-kept, 18 hole, par 71 course that has been well-maintained for over 20 years. The course was originally built in the early 1930’s and has seen many changes since. It is an easy walking course with beautiful trees and flowers throughout the year. The course offers many different types of golfing including a full length driving range, putting green and two practice greens. The clubhouse offers a snack bar as well as a pro shop that sells all kinds of merchandise including golf hats and gloves.
Meadows Golf Course has one of the best maintenance facilities in the country with its own fleet of over thirty trucks and a staff of over sixty employees. The maintenance facility includes a fully equipped shop for equipment repair and maintenance, as well as an onsite mechanic for emergencies. In addition to this, there are two full-service gas stations located within walking distance.
The maintenance crew at Meadows Golf Course makes sure that the course is always in tip top condition by taking care of any problems that may arise during play time such as rain damage to grass areas or fallen tree branches from storms.
