The best golf course in the United States is Pebble Beach Golf Links. I have no doubt that there are many who would debate this point, but I feel confident in making this statement. If not the best, it is certainly among the best courses ever built – and unquestionably the most beautiful. The Links at Spanish Bay is another course that regularly appears on the most prestigious lists. Both of these courses are found on California’s Monterey Peninsula and are open to public play, although at a substantial cost.
The fact that two of our country’s most beloved courses are located on what amounts to a small piece of real estate does indeed make for an interesting contrast. While Pebble Beach is widely considered to be the more challenging of the two, Spanish Bay has its own set of unique challenges and does offer some incredible views of its own from almost every hole along the course.

The first time I saw the Links at Crowbush Cove, I was on a plane. It’s not easy to see from the air, even though it is a championship golf course. But then again, the land that would become Crowbush Cove wasn’t much of anything before it became one of Canada’s finest links courses.
It sits in the middle of Prince Edward Island National Park, which means that no matter which way you look as you play this magnificent course, there is nothing but sand dunes, grasses and spectacular ocean views.
I remember seeing it from the air and thinking that if I had been given an assignment to find a piece of land to build a championship golf course in this part of Canada, I would have chosen the same piece. The rolling terrain, with barely a tree anywhere, was so well suited for links-style golf that I wondered how no one had come upon it before. (Of course, they had; they just hadn’t made it into a golf course.)
The Links at Crowbush Cove opened in 1994 and quickly became one of Canada’s top two or three courses. It was named one of Golf Digest’s top 10 new international courses when it opened, and has remained in our World Top 50 since 2006. And yet I
