All You Need to Know About Disc Golf

Disc Golf is a real sport and its only been around for about 30 years. It has grown from a handful of groups to over 3,000 sanctioned courses in the United States. With it’s growth there has been some changes with the rules, equipment and regulations of the game. I’m going to break down everything you need to know about disc golf for those who are just getting started.

First off, let’s set up your gear. You need one putter, one mid-range and one driver. You can have more than one in each category but this is what you need to get started. Also, if you don’t want to invest in your own discs just yet then most courses have discs to rent out for a small fee.

The way disc golf works is similar to traditional golf but instead of using clubs and balls we use discs that are specifically designed for the task at hand. The object of disc golf is to throw your disc into a chain basket in as few throws as possible. Now that we have our gear set let’s get started on learning how to throw each type of disc in our bag by starting with our putter first.

Disc Golf is a fun game. It is played with a disc that is thrown towards a basket like target. It is a game similar to golf but not as challenging as the ball and club sport. The terminology used to talk about the game mimics golf as well. A round of disc golf usually takes less time than a round of ball golf however.

Disc Golf was created in the 1970’s and has been growing in popularity since then. There are many courses found around the country and the world. It is fairly inexpensive compared to ball golf as well. The only thing you need to play is discs which run around $10-$15 each. You can play without any other equipment, but some people do use things like caddies, bags, score cards and more just like ball golf.

There are different types of disc for different situations or throws. Putting discs are smaller and lighter than those used for driving or throwing long distances because they are easier to control when tossing them short distances at the basket or target.

A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target which is the “hole.” The hole can be one of a number of disc golf targets; the most common is called a Pole Hole an elevated metal basket. As a player progresses down the fairway, he or she must make each consecutive shot from the spot where the previous throw has landed. The trees, shrubs and terrain changes located in and around the fairways provide challenging obstacles for the golfer. Finally, the “putt” lands in the basket and the hole is completed.

Disc golf shares the same joys and frustrations of traditional golf, whether it’s nailing a great drive or hitting a tree halfway down the fairway.
