The golf swing is made up of many different components. The main components are the swing plane, grip, stance, ball position and body rotation. These are the basics of the golf swing and without these there would be no way to hit your drives farther.

The first component is the golf swing plane. There are usually two types of planes that are recommended: one plane and two plane swings. Both swings will ultimately produce a good outcome but it depends on the golfer which one works best for them. The one plane golf swing is considered to be easier because there isn’t as much body movement, while the two plane golf swing is more difficult because it requires a lot more movement.

The second component to help hit your drives longer is your grip. Your grip should be firm but not too tight because it can cause problems with your wrists and forearms. Also, you want to make sure that all your fingers are wrapped around the club perfectly so that when you swing back and forth on each shot your hands don’t slide or slip off the club like they would if you were holding onto something slippery like a bar of soap!

If you want to hit your golf drives longer, you need to understand what makes the ball go. The majority of the distance that a golf ball travels comes from the speed of the clubhead at impact. In order to hit your irons further, you need to hit them faster. The easiest way to do this is to make a bigger turn in your backswing and take it wider away from the ball. The biggest mistake I see with most golfers is they take their swing too short and inside on the backswing and then try to come over the top and hit across the ball.

I’m going to show you an exercise that will help you feel what it’s like to make a bigger turn in your backswing. First, place your club so that it’s vertical on the ground and even with your trail shoulder (right side for right handed players). Make sure that half of the grip of the club is pointing towards your target and half is pointing towards you. Take a normal iron grip on the club and make some half swings by taking it away from the ball, making a full shoulder turn, and then coming back down again. Many golfers tend to focus on their driving distance. If you’re looking to hit your drives longer, here are some tips that will help you accomplish that:

1. Warm up before playing a round of golf. Do not make the mistake of going directly to the first tee without warming up. The more you warm up, the better prepared your muscles will be for the round ahead.

2. Get your swing speed to around 100 mph or higher. The faster you can swing the club, the further your ball will travel through the air.

3. Use a driver with an open-faced club head. This results in a lower spin rate and a higher “carry” distance for your drives.

4. Swing with a smooth tempo and let your body do most of the work during your swing(opposed to swinging with arms). Hitting a driver is similar to swinging a baseball bat or tennis racket: arm strength is less important than full-body rotation at impact.

As a college golfer I’ve experienced many different golf swings. I’ve seen the low, high, slow-fast, wide, narrow, short, long and every kind of golf swing. And you know what? Every single one of them can work.

It’s true. Even the most unorthodox golf swings can work.

If you’re looking for a cookie-cutter approach to the golf swing, with instructions on how to do it this way or how to do it that way, then you’re barking up the wrong tree.

I don’t know your goals or your expectations for your golf game. In fact, I’m assuming you want either more distance or better control of your ball flight.

It’s not my job to tell you HOW to play golf. It’s my job to show you what’s possible. And then get out of your way while you figure out how you can get there.
