Five New Golf Courses You Need to Play: A blog about the best new golf courses.

We’ve all heard of “bucket lists” – a list of things you absolutely have to do while you’re alive. Most people have the same items on their bucket list: run a marathon, go skydiving, visit the pyramids.

But if you’re a golfer, it’s time to think bigger than that. These are the five courses you need to play before your time is up.

1) Fancourt Links Golf Course (George, South Africa)

2) Kamloops Golf & Country Club (Kamloops, Canada)

3) Royal County Down Golf Club (Newcastle, Northern Ireland)

4) Spyglass Hill Golf Course (Pebble Beach, California)

5) The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort (Kiawah Island, South Carolina)

Five New Golf Courses You Need to Play

A blog about the best new golf courses.

Newer does not necessarily mean better. Unless you are talking about golf. The sport has seen a number of changes over the last few years that have made it more enjoyable, and new courses are popping up everywhere. If you want to play where the pros will play in the future, you need to get out there on these courses now.

Pebble Beach—Monterey, CA: Arguably one of the most beautiful places on Earth, Pebble Beach is a must play for any golfer who visits California. While it is not new by any stretch of the imagination, it was recently renovated with new greens and bunkers to make it even more of a challenge. It is a very expensive round of golf, but if you can afford it, this course should be at the top of your list.

Chambers Bay—University Place, WA: Located near Seattle, this Scottish-style links course was built on an old sand quarry. The views are amazing but so are the blind shots that are required throughout your round here. It also features some very deep bunkers that were designed to resemble Scottish pot bunkers. If you like to

Long-time readers of this blog know that I am a huge fan of new golf courses. These are the places where the world’s best golf architects are building the most innovative and challenging layouts. I’ve been fortunate to play the vast majority of them and have written about many of these amazing courses in this space over the years (click here to see all my posts on new golf).

But it’s time for an update. Here are five new golf courses you need to play. No, these aren’t necessarily the courses that have opened since last year’s list, though one is. It’s just five more terrific selections from around the globe that would make any golfer’s dream itinerary.

Pebble Beach Golf Links, Pebble Beach, Calif.: Yes, it’s been there for nearly 100 years and no, it hasn’t changed much in recent years. But so what? It sits on possibly the greatest piece of property for golf anywhere in the world and is as awesome a course today as it was when Jack Nicklaus dubbed it “the greatest meeting of land and sea in golf.”

There are plenty of great courses at Pebble Beach Resorts — Spyglass Hill and Spanish Bay among them — but Pebble Beach Golf Links is still king.

Every year golf courses open and close. You’ve probably heard of Pine Valley, Bandon Dunes or Augusta National. But what about Stone Canyon Golf Club in Oro Valley? Or the new course at The Inn at Palmetto Bluff? If you haven’t made your way to these two amazing courses, then you need to get out here. These are just a couple of the many new courses that are popping up around the country in the last few years.

The newest of them all is Stone Canyon and it’s a must-see if you’re in Arizona. The course is set against the Santa Catalina Mountains and there are great views on every hole. Most golfers will find the course to be fair, but challenging with several risk-reward holes that give you the chance to attack if you want to make birdie or par. I recommend playing from the back tees for a true test.

The Inn at Palmetto Bluff is located in South Carolina and it’s only been opened for a few years but they have already made a big splash in the golf world as one of the top resort courses in North America. Designed by Jack Nicklaus Signature Design Group, this course is wide and forgiving off the tee but there are plenty of bunkers

Golf has always been a game that evolves, but in recent years the pace of change has accelerated to a blistering pace. Courses are now longer and tougher than ever, with unforgiving roughs and fast greens that demand accuracy from players. But it’s not just the courses-the clubs are changing as well. New materials like titanium and carbon fiber mean that today’s clubs can hit farther than ever before. This is good news for golfers-the sport used to be a much more elite club, but thanks to technological advances anyone can play now. The downside is that courses have had to adapt in order to stay competitive, which means they’re more difficult than ever before.

This new difficulty is great news for golfers who like a challenge. But what if you’re just starting out? In this post we present five courses you need to play if you want learn the game. They may not be the most challenging in the world, but they will give you a good foundation in the basics of golf-things like swinging your club correctly and lining up your shots.

Golf is all about precision, so make sure you take time with each shot. It’s not just about how hard or fast you swing: it’s also about where on the ball you

They’re all great, but the winner for us was the new course at Miami Beach. We loved the views of downtown Miami and the water, and the beautiful greens and fairways. The only downside was that it was a little hard to get to. You have to take a ferry from South Beach. But that’s still worth it.
