The Links at Unionvale is a golf course with a difference. It’s the first green in America to be fully LGBT inclusive, and that means it’s attracting a new type of clientele.
The course was the idea of Edwin and Alandra, who have been together for 15 years now. They are both keen golfers, and they decided to enter into business together to open their own course. The Links at Unionvale is in upstate New York, where Edwin is originally from; Alandra is from Puerto Rico and moved there with him.
“We felt that as a gay couple we wanted to do something different,” Edwin says. “We felt that this area of New York had not really done anything for the LGBT community.”
“We were on vacation one day and we came across this place for sale,” he adds. “It had everything we were looking for: it was a great piece of land, the house was in good condition, there were stables which my wife loves because she rides horses.”
The Links Golf Course is a full service facility catering to the LGBT community. The course is open to all seven days a week, weather permitting. The course was designed by Edwin and Alandra, professionals and entrepreneurs. Edwin is the head pro at The Links and Alandra oversees business operations.
The Links has a full practice facility with covered hitting bays, open hitting area, short game area and putting green. We offer group lessons as well as one on one instruction. We also provide an excellent golf shop with quality merchandise at reasonable prices.
The Links Pro Shop is located in our clubhouse along with our restaurant/bar area. The bar serves appetizers, soups & salads, sandwiches and wraps. A full bar is available as well as beer on tap from local breweries. Catering for special events can be arranged through the pro shop or you are free to bring your own food for larger groups.
The Links Golf Course is a private country club founded in 1894 by Scottish immigrants, for Scottish immigrants. Although the first course was built by a local Edinbourgh born gardener, the Links has been a destination for Golfers since its founding. The first professional tournament held at the Links was the US Open in 1904, won by William J. Smith. The Links Golf Course remains one of the most exclusive clubs in the world to this day.
In 1894, golf was still only popular among Scottish Immigrants living in the United States. Edwin and Alandra founded a golf club that would serve as a center for expatriate intellectual and cultural life. The original course was designed by Robert McDermott, an immigrant gardener who had worked with many of the Scottish Immigrant families over his long career in America. His plans for the course were finished in 1899, but he did not live to see it completed; he died in 1897 of complications from pneumonia.
The course was expanded to 18 holes in 1905 and became known as “The Links”. This name reflects its place as “The Link” between two worlds: Scotland and America. It is often said that if you stand on

The Links Golf Course is a golf course that was established in 1903 by the United States Department of Agriculture. In 1905, it was re-designed by the famous architect and golf course designer John D. Rockefeller, who designed the famous 18-hole course known as The Links at St. Andrew’s. The Links Golf Course has been home to the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) for over 60 years. The Links Golf Course was built on a former farm, which had previously been used as a horse track for racing horses.
The Links Golf Course is located in Augusta, Georgia, which is just outside of Atlanta. It is one of two courses in the state of Georgia that are designed by John D. Rockefeller, who also designed the famous 18-hole course at St. Andrew’s in Scotland. The other course that he designed is called The Masters at Augusta National, which is located near Augusta National and was established in 1921 by John D. Rockefeller and his wife Mary Ann Rockefeller.
