If you want to know where to go on vacation, advice from a travel agency is usually worst. The most popular beaches in the world are not in exotic places with exotic names but in places like White Rock, British Columbia; and the most expensive places to live are not in Manhattan but in San Francisco.
The most popular golf course to play is not necessarily the most expensive. The best golf courses in the world are often free. In every city there are thousands of courses that cost nothing to play, and some that cost only a few dollars an hour.
A good place to start is by looking at what people say they will do, then checking that against what they actually do. A good way to discover golf courses is with a blog called First Place To Visit , which lists all the first golf course you see as you enter a new city.
The “First Place To Visit” is written by a professional golfer and has been featured in Golf Digest and Golf World. It’s an example of what’s called a “blog-based business”, which is a fancy way of saying that you build your own business by blogging about something you know something about.
Most people, when they think of the idea of starting a blog, assume they’ll need to be experts in at least one field. A few people start blogs based on their hobbies, but most have highly specialized interests. I started this golf blog because I’m not much of a golfer, and I’ve always wanted to write about it. But I don’t have much experience as a writer, so I’ve had to learn how to do that and build my own audience.
The First Place To Visit is unique among golf blogs in that it makes money from sponsorships, affiliate links, and advertising. Money has been coming in steadily since the beginning of the year, which means now the blog can afford to pay me for writing it. It also means that there’s less pressure on me to write interesting posts all the time.
We all love to go for a walk along the beach. But if you want to be healthy, it is wiser to choose the first sandy stretch of beach you see. It is not the first place that looks good: the first place that looks good is the one that other people have already gone to. And a favorite walk spot will often turn out to be a mud puddle or a pile of rocks.
The same is true in golf. The first course you see will certainly be better than many others, but it might not be quite as good as the best course you could have visited had you had the foresight to book early.
In golf, the first course you see is called the “first-time” course. You can “play your way into” playing it by booking early and taking advantage of its popularity. You can also play your way out of it by being one of many people who book at short notice and miss out because they didn’t book before it became popular and full.”
People who have never been on a golf course may wonder why anyone would go to such trouble, wasting time and money, when there are so many alternatives. One would be to go to the most beautiful place in the world, or at least the most beautiful place within reasonable distance. But people don’t usually want to do that.
They might want the most brightly colored hills they can see, or the best views of the ocean, or just whatever is closest. And if you can get all these things in one place, that’s even better. So instead you make a trip to see a golf course that is not only beautiful but also fun for no particular reason. The beauty and fun are added as bonuses.
Kennedy Golf Course is the first place you should visit if you’re looking for an interesting golf course to play. At the moment it’s my favorite course, and the only place I’ve been that satisfies all my criteria for a great golf course: challenging (but not impossible), great views, a good layout and interesting design.
I think it’s also one of the most underrated courses in the world – which is worth mentioning because it’s also one of its main drawbacks. Kennedy Golf Club is only rated 3.5 stars by Golf Digest, but in my opinion it’s much better than that. In particular, they really need to work on the bunkers and greens, which are not quite as good as they should be.
As far as I’m concerned, if you’re looking for a fun round of golf with nice views outside, Kennedy is still one of the best places to play in Europe.
I’m an avid golfer, and I’ve always been puzzled about why golf is played on the same courses for so long. The courses you find at the top of the pro tour are amazing, and they’re way more fun than the ones you play in your own backyard. But I would prefer to play on any of them rather than course number one in my local area.
I used to think this was because players couldn’t get any better, but that’s not true. I think it’s because no one knows how good a course is until they have played on a bunch of different ones.
There are a few exceptions: Because most people can’t play well enough to make golf interesting, there are a lot of courses that are very similar at every level. (This is a problem for trying to make money from promoting golf.) And there are also many courses where it is quite easy to tell which card to play with some basic knowledge of what makes each hole good or bad. (This was the case with Oakmont Country Club, which was great until Arnold Palmer came along.) But most courses aren’t like either of these two cases.
This is not a blog about golf. It is more like a blog about “paying attention.”
In the heat of the moment, it’s easy to get distracted. Golf is a good distraction, because it’s hard to argue with.
The point of this blog is to say: “Hey, you know what? You’re just going to have to pay attention later.”
